The IoT market consists of hardware (such as chips, light sources, sensors, etc), platforms, connectivity devices, and maintenance and integration services. Energy, cost and integration requirements vary widely, and strongly depend on application.

More sustainable and secure communications are desirable. There is significant demand for wireless optical communication links that could be easily integrated in various contexts and HiSOSC-based RF devices could respond to this demand.

Current IoT solutions use radio communications, but not all of those solutions can satisfy energy, cost and seamless integration requirements. Wireless communications via visible light could offer an alternative to RF for short-communications, (<10 m), with license-free spectrum, security and privacy. It will be very easy to integrate HiSODs on almost any surface: plastic, glass, textile, etc.
