Optical Interconnect and DataCom market

We also aim to deliver innovations of broadband waveguided optical links/optical interconnects. The optical interconnect market in 2021 was US$10.2 bn and will increase up to US$37.6 bn in 2032 with CAGR of 12,5 %. The major driver behind this market is the growing demand in data centre networks for advanced bandwidth interconnects with reduced power consumption. Both power and interconnect density are bottlenecks for high performance computing (HPC) systems.

There is particular need for new technologies for link lengths from a few cm to 1 meter, where neither electrical connections nor optical fibres are satisfactory. Future growth of the optical interconnect market may be affected by high interconnect cost. Fabrication and integration costs of alternative technologies, e.g. silicon photonics or VCSELs, are very high.
